A podcast is
a web feed of audio
or video files placed on the internet for
download, and the term also
refers to the content of that feed.
Some podcasting
websites will offer direct download of
their files, but the subscription feed of
automatically delivered new content is what
distinguishes a podcast from a simple download
or real-time streaming of audio and video.
This site offers you the option to subscribe
to a series or listen online to an individual
podcast from that series.
Podcasting is the distribution of audio or video
files, such as course lectures, radio programs
or videos, over the internet using
RSS (Real Simple Syndication)
for listening on mobile devices (like iPods)
and personal computers.
So, how is this different than having an audio or video file posted
to a website?
For NJIT, podcasting is really all about
two things-
1. Creating audio or video
content for an audience (students) that
want to use course materials with personal
control over when/where/how they use it.
2. Allowing students to subscribe to a course
and having the downloading of that course's podcasts automated by software
such as iTunes. |
