To subscribe to any podcast -
not only course podcasts at
NJIT - you simply need to know the RSS address
for that podcast. Many websites offer these feeds and
use an icon for this link that looks something
like these:

For example, take a look
at the podcasts
available for
free at National
Public Radio
Some sites - like podcast.njit.edu
- offer a one
click button
for use with
iTunes. On
our course
home pages,
if you see
the iTunes
logo, and
if you already have iTunes
installed on your computer, you can click to subscribe to that
course.
If you are not using iTunes currently,
you may download
for free at
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ (You
don't need
any iPod or
other mp3 player
to use iTunes.).
You may also
use any other
podcasting
application
(AKA podcast
aggregators)
On many sites, there will be an
XML link .
Now, if you are
new to this,
your first
instinct is
to click on
the icon or
link. If you
click on an
RSS link, it
will usually
just open an
XML file and
you'll see
a page of XML
code - this
code is of
no use to you.
Instead, right
click on the
icon or link
and select
COPY SHORTCUT.
You'll need to paste that
shortcut into
your podcasting
application
as described
below.
For example, if you wanted to subscribe
to NPR's "7 am Morning News Update", you
would need to copy the RSS link
http://www.npr.org/rss/podcast.php?id=500001
In the screenshots below, we subscribe
using iTunes.
1) Click
on the "Advanced" tab in
iTunes and select "Subscribe
to Podcast..."
2) Paste
the copied address into
the URL window of the "Subscribe
to Podcast" dialog and then click "OK" to
subscribe.
iTunes will now populate the "Podcasts" screen
with information about the podcast. Expanding
the field by clicking the small arrow will
show all the available audio files. If
the course has several podcasts available
already, the latest will be downloaded.
Any podcasts that did not automatically
download will show a "GET" button
next to the filename - click the button
to get that particular podcast.
iTunes will check daily (that's
the default setting unless you have
changed your iTunes podcast settings) for
the latest podcast of your course. If
a new course session is posted, it will
download this automatically. You
can also manually click the "UPDATE" button
to check for the latest files if you
think something new should be available
for that course.
